Hi: I have an older desk lamp that has a cord with a transformer, stepping it down to 12volts. I want to swap out the tiny bi-pin bulb that getS SUPER hot with an LED version. All I can find are 120v versions that fit this particular style. Can I simply cut off the transformer and rewire the cord? Thank you!

Are they GU10 bulbs?

The no pin base is voltage specific so a bi pin 120 volt bulb will not fit your lamp. The spacing between the pins will be different.

It is likely to be quite unsafe to apply 120 V to a device designed and wired for 12 V.
Also, if there is any metal in its construction, that metal should be Grounded BUT, in your 12 V device, it will NOT be Grounded.

Buy a nice new LED desk lamp.
(For example https://www.staples.com/Turcom-Rela...SB-Ports-for-Chargers-TS-7005/product_2614801, which is dimable, the colour temperature can be changed and it has a USB charging port.)

You have a 12v bi-pin halogen lamp. 12v bi-pin LEDs are available.
