100 or 200 Amp meter head?

9446 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  greeneprojects
I am going to place a new service drop and meter head next to my old one and then the POCO will switch it out. My question is how is a 200 amp meter head different than a 100 amp head? I have an existing 100 amp service and it's fine but in the future someone (maybe me) may want more power.
Can I use a 200 amp meter head to supply the existing 100 amp main panel?
They look the same to me!
Thanks for the advice.

Sorry for the non-exact vernacular guys. Meter Socket. 'Ring type over head meter socket' to be exact.
So I guess now that we are past that you would agree that it IS a good thing to replace my drip head, service drop, meter socket and pipe going into the house to the main breaker panel with 200 amp capable materials? I have some remainder 00/02 wire so I will use it as well.

If not good let me know.

Thanks for all the help!
