My house is a semi-detached back split with a side entrance which results in an L shaped courtyard. I would like to take this space created by the L, which is all brick exterior wall (2 walls) and build a new kitchen family room. I imagine a slab foundation with radiant in floor heating for this space, covered by ceramic or stone tile, leaving the 2 walls with the brick as they are - having the stove on one wall and the sink, dishwasher on the other. I would need two new exterior walls, well insulated and probably covered with siding that would match the existing siding on the back and side of the house. I would need some windows, patio door and maybe an entry door. Does this sound feasible? Can you keep an exterior brick wall as an inside wall? Anyone done such an extension?
