I've recently been asked to help a coworker out that is on medical leave to install a water softener. I've worked with copper for a couple of decades on my own properties but not with PEX. I want to put copper in the wall with the bypass and shutoff valves. The supply line is 1" PEX. Can I use 3/4 copper? Is there a better way? This run adds a total of 12ft to the entire run.

How do I come out of the wall with 1" PEX. I want to make this a nice install. The softener does actually have its own bypass valve/manifold, so maybe I can just put a couple of shutoff valves. I don't mind investing in tools, wife still buying properties, I'm still the manual labor.

Plumbing on medical leave, and then he will wonder where his job went. Oh well, at least his water will be softer.
Posting without comprehending, what a shame.

Co-worker out, not me, like I stated, but thanks a little for your input, your a treasure.

I guess another question I need to ask is do I need to stay with 1" copper on 1" PEX, or is 3/4" copper the way to go for the main line? I know there are differences in the inside diameters.

Thanks for all those that helped. Measured yesterday and it turns out its 3/4" pipe. Found a wall that runs under the pipe directly and it's going to turn out to be an extremely simple job. I'm starting to like PEX better then copper.
