I have a 0.125 hp electric pump motor, it says it is a 240V which I don't see how when the wire to it is #14. My question is how many amps will this motor pull. I can't seem to find it online.

The nameplate on the motor must include a rated current draw. It varies greatly between small motors. Small motors are less efficient than larger ones and have higher power factors too. One table suggests that a 1/8HP motor should draw not more than 1.9A at 240V, which seems about right. I see no reason why #14 wire would be a concern.

I knew you guys would know, that is why I ask you. Our electrician hadn't gotten back so I could ask him and I needed to know to tell the folks where we bought the unit from, they kept saying that was a 15 amp motor and it is written on the motor that it is a 0.125 hp motor. I never could find where it stated the amps it would draw.

Thanks ever so much, when I was in business I depended on my electrician, he knew his stuff.

SC quoted: " As you've found, amps aren't a measure of power in most conversion charts."

SeniorC, I really didn't know amps wasn't a measure of power. I did notice no one would just come right out and say what I wanted to know on the charts. When I bought a new circular saw I always went with the saw with the higher amps. Y'all have got me curious now, I will do some studying to see how all that works.

Thanks again fellows, you certainly have my respect.
