It all started with the hose from the pressure switch to the inducer fan which I found brittle and cracked. I had some automotive vacuum hose that was just the right size to replace it and it worked fine for a couple of months. Then I realized that the Inducer wasn’t working and it was getting so hot that the paint was burning off it.

I ordered a new inducer fan, but will not be here until next Tuesday. In the mean time we are freezing so I started messing with the fan and found that I can actually get it to run by loosening it up so the blower is not dragging. I started up the furnace last night and got a little heat but was worried about leaving it on all night so I turned it off.

This morning it was really cold so I tried to heat things up again but two things are happening now.

1) The blower fan will not come on by itself and I have to operate it in manual.

2) The burners light and heat, but go off after about 30 to 40 seconds.
I’m now starting to wonder if I have a cracked heat exchanger, but I don’t know how to check

The furnace is a Heil NUGE100CK02

Could be control board is bad, this also controls fan operation. Could also be a cracked exchanger I would start by jumping out the flame roll out switch and see if you can keep the furnace lit. Not recommended for extended use because its purpose is
to sense flame rolling out as name describes, which generally is caused by crack in the heat exchanger. Another option if this is a 90 percent or better furnace is improper condensation drainage. Check for clogged pipping or that the condensation pump is operating correctly.

I’m assuming that this is the flame roll out switch, but I don’t know how well it works.

I give that a try

My wife just told me that the fan problem has been there all along and she has been complaining, but I just wasn’t listening and thought it was something else. So now I really need to look at the fan circuit.
I did notice the fan limit switch was acting funny, but I don’t know how it’s supposed to work. it was turning and then after 30 seconds, it jumped back.
I’m going to do some research on the fan limit switch. Maybe that’s the problem.

Even though the fan spins sort of freely it is not getting up to the full 3300 rpm and not creating enough suction to keep the pressure switch closed. Once the burners fire the flue gases are denser and overload the fan slowing it down to the point where the pressure switch trips. Nothing U can do about it. The combo fan/limit control after 20 yrs is sticking and needs replacing - Americanhvaparts.com is good but you need to remove it and measure the length as there are 5,8, 11 inch models.

What is the hight temp orange tubing Called?

I just need to get this thing up long enough to heat my house until i can get what I need on Monday. I almost got it but i noticed the the pressure hose is getting hot and expanding causing the pressure switch to open. I had to use a vacuum hose and it just can't take the heat.

Everything is closed except for home improvement stores. when I took the inducer fan off, I tore up the insulation between the housing and the furnace, so i need to also find something to replace that.

What could I buy at a big box store that get me by?

the inducer should come with a new gasket and the hose needs to B silicone hose. I get mine from a HVAC wholesaler but I would try americanhvacparts.com or wherever you are getting the inducer from and tell them you need some silicone hose and get the diameter. it is very expensive and I don't know where a DIY can get it. nothing but a couple 1500 watt space heaters from HDepot can help you now. if you have a elec clothes dryer with a plug you can jury rig a different end/clothes dryer plug to a 240 volt 3000 watt yellow/red construction htr from there also/

I just got back from buying some fire stop caulking and I wish I would have thought of the red RTV because it would have been less expensive.

I think after I seal off the vent pipe I’m going back to the vacuum hose except that this time I’m going to gob on the fire stop caulking to completely cover it from the heat. If I can just get through to Monday, I’ll be happy :)

I have a sorry excuse for a fire place that I’m using but it doesn’t heat the whole house. It’s funny because I had over a cord of wood from two trees I cut. It was just taking up space and attracting rats so I gave a lot of it away and also threw a lot in the trash saving only a small amount for me. I’ve been burning it at night and its going to be gone by tomorrow.:(

If you grew up in the 60's and 70's you probably remember a band called " Three Dog Night". It gets to -40F/C where I am. The name of the band is that in Australia the aboriginals would sleep outside with their dingos/dogs and when it got below freeezing it was a 3 dog night. Mans best friend could make a good warm friend/bed if necesary.:yes:

I do know that band, but i never picked up the meaning. Very Cool Thanks.

My daughter said that if I don't have heat tonight she was going to stay with friends. I told her that we were going to hang blankets around the room and all of us including the dog were going to sleep together in front of the fire place to keep warm. She said no thanks and called her girlfriends, so i guess it will be just the wife me and the dogs. LOL

Any way I took it all apart again and started to seal it up but the new tube of Fire Block was dried up. I just got back from returning it and I stopped off at the auto parts store to pick up the red RTV, but I saw some high temp muffler sealer and got it instead. I also bought some fuel line and small hose clamps to keep it on. I don't know yet if its going to work, but its worth a try.

Yeah, actually growing up in the 60's/70's with all the Classic cars and Classic bands and real album covers and artwork was a LOT more interesting than all the Pop band of the day rubbish that I see now. My 7 yr old nephew will never know what a REAL stuntman did as everything is CGI now. I love the old James Bond movies with real stuntmen not the CGI or green screen crap they have now. Check this website out history of band names which is quite interesting.

Good Luck with the temp repair.

Yea, I GOT HEAT!!!

I’m not sure about the exhaust pipe sealer because it wasn’t what I thought it was and I hope I can remove it when the new fan comes in. the fuel line was too big and I had to use the vacuum line but I put some tape on it to protect it from the heat.

I’m concerned about the heat and I don’t know if it is normal so I edited the Fasco Draft Inducer photo with the temps and I hope someone could tell me if it’s ok. I’ve been waiting for my neighbor to come home so I can measure his, but I guess he will not be back until late.

You know I had an old ’49 Chevy panel truck with a terrible AM radio back then and now that I have a great stereo, I’m listening to all those old songs and it’s like I never heard them before. I’m just now hearing all the lyrics and I have to admit that I was completely in the dark on some of those songs.

Those temps are ok. Your exhaust temp should be 350 plus.
Thanks, I was hoping someone would reply before I went to bed because I didn't know if I should leave the furnace on all night.

The furnace is running fine now and the house temp is back to normal. Its been a few days since we had heat and the house itself was cold. Well I guess I'll go to bed now with the heat on. :)
