The picture included is a drain pipe which receives water from the floor drain in my garage. It's leaking where it meets up against the wall. I imagine I just need to caulk it but want to be sure I use the right kind for this scenario. Advise please?

Hello everyone, I have a heat loss issue in my daughter's room. It's over a garage but the place that seems to be very very cold is actually her closet. It's a walk in closet but they ran the carbon monoxide 4inch pvc pipe up thru the floor from inside the garage. Pipe feels very cold to the...

I have this old school plumbing in one of my bathrooms that I want to redo the faucet. As you can see it doesn't have the standard shut off valve we are used to. I am a bit hesitant to do this in case there is some type of break in a pipe while trying to remove to install proper valve - I'll...

I have a 6 foot wide roll of butcher paper (it's a little shy of 100 lbs) and it currently sits on my floor and I have to roll it out (then roll up the paper if I need a longer length), pick them up (with help), move them back to the beginning spot, roll it out some more, and repeat as necessary...

Anyone have any idea what this is? Seems to be a pit with some sort of water line through it. The problem I am having is the pit is filling up with rain water from the ground (I am assuming) and seeping up into my yard making it very wet. As you can see in the picture there is a line running...
  6. Drywall & Plaster
So drywall people came yesterday and installed drywall, and they did something funky that I'm not too happy about. Background: we pulled out a bunch of drywall behind the sink wall in the kitchen to do some electrical work, and now had drywall company come in to install the drywall. We have a...

Hey Handy People! I've been dreaming of building my very own loft bed for years. I'm fairly handy, I've built things in the past, I've been in numerous shop classes, and I can follow directions quite well. However, my biggest obstacle here is understanding what weight pipe can support. I've...
  8. Electrical
Hi there. So, I'm changing a vanity light fixture, and discover that the builder/previous owner cut the electrical box to allow for a copper pipe to run through it. See photos attached. First, is this ok? Second, any suggestions for how to replace? Should I try something similar with an old...
  9. Plumbing
We just moved to a new house and I just finished taking the kitchen cabinets off and realized that my sink drain is going behind the cabinets (why?). My goal is to make it go through the floor (see pink) directly under the sink so it's not in the way and I'm wondering if it's possible.

Hello Everyone - I'm in the process of finishing my basement and I wanted to insulate my monoflo pipe. My question is about the type of insulation I should use - I see on Zoro they have pipe insulation with a temp range up to 200 degrees, I don't think the pipe exceeds that temperature. I...

Good day all, I will be installing a french drain along with some ground-level drains to get rid of water in the ground as well as surface water during a bad rainfall. I will be using 4" pvc perforated pipe at a slope angle of 1-2 degrees. I will be digging a trench, laying down a few inches of...

Hello all, I'm from Casa Grande, AZ. and I just replaced the sewer pipes in my back yard, the home was built in 1954. A neighbor said I could pour salt (water softener salt) in my trench before I cover it up, to prevent roots from ever getting into my pipes. I have a huge pine tree in my back...
  13. Landscaping & Lawn Care
Hey Y'all, I'm really hoping someone can help me here. I have ~5 acres of land with 4 small "drainage ponds" on it. What I'd like to do is set up one gas-powered water pump with a PVC valve manifold intended to choose which pond I'd like to drain (one at time or a combination of them). I can't...

Should I use burner set that came with Vented Gas Logs or use what is in the fireplace right now? Below is a photo of what is currently in fireplace. If I'm given the green light to use what is already here, can I drill a few more holes in the pipe? The red circle around the pipe represents...

Is it because 1) Water expands when it turns to ice. When water in a pipe turns to ice it expands and burst the pipe. 2) when water turns to ice it compresses water downstream. This pressure in the compressed water eventually bursts the pipe, not the expanding ice. Thanks for any help.

Hey, guys. I'm building a small office in my basement. It's a townhouse with cinderblock walls in-between units. On this cinderblock wall, I want to frame a 2x4 wall to insulate and drywall. The problem is, there's a 1 1/2" drain pipe running along the top of the wall. Meaning, I can't nail...

I am currently in the process of having a home built. There is a bathroom vanity drain/vent pipe that wasn't lined up properly to the sill plate location. Consequently, it looks like the plumber tried heating up the pipe (notice yellowing on the pipe) and then pushed the metal strap into the...
