Hi, I have 3 outlets that don't work. When I look with the multimeter for the voltage between hot and ground, I get 120V. When I check from neutral to ground, I get slightly above 0V. But when I check from hot to neutral, I get about 0V. Any ideas as what the problem could be? Thank you, Frederic

Hi, I have a circuit that goes like this: - 20a breaker - to about 15ft 12/2 - to junction box in the attic - to about 30 ft of 10/2 - to a 20a/125v single outlet recepticle - to a 11 amp window/wall unit A/C. Nothing else is on the circuit. The recepticle stopped working due to melted...

I'm just wondering, if the neutral bus is grounded in a main panel (using grounding rods or whatever), doesn't that mean that there's always some electricity running to the ground besides the current flowing back through the neutral wire to the electric company? Also, if you ground by...

Good morning all, my knowledge in wiring is pretty basic and I have a situation: Bought a house a little bit old, bought range brand new; plugged in, heating cooktop works, display and oven controls doesn't (so oven doesn't either) the oven was conected to a 3 pins range outlet, measured...

I recently bought a new tv and plugged it in to my cable box upstairs and then plugged the tv into the outlet. Then the tv downstairs went out and something in the main cable connecting equipment to the house (outside) blew up. The cable guy came out and said there was a short to ground in my...

Hello All. Many thanks to this forum, which has been a God-send to me for quite some time. Here's my issue: I recently purchased my first home in Maryland. It's a small house built in the 1960s that utilizes a 100amp electrical box. The previous owners had a system of hooking up their backup...

This is my first sub panel and my electrician is in the hospital and I can wait no more. I'm in the process of wiring up a 60a sub panel from my 100 amp main. I will be running one 40A 240 circuit and one 20a 120 circuit. My run is 75 feet. I ran #6 thwn in schedule 40 18 inches deep. the...

About 3 months ago my wife and I bought a house built around 1945, it has 2 wire cloth wiring for the most part, but has some newer rubber romex mixed in here and there, my question is about the electrical panel, the grounds and neutrals are tied into the same buss bar, also, their is no ground...

Outlet was working correctly - hot to neutral lights up and hot to ground lights up and neutral to ground does nothing. Was working in the circuit box and the neutral became disconnected. At which point hot to neutral was not lighting up and hot to ground was not lighting up. When neutral was...

I have 4 wires coming from the cooktop (KECC508RPB04) - black, red, white and green. I have 3 types of wires in the wall. Black, red, and a bare (not copper) twisted wire. I am guessing that the wall oven (on another wall) is on the same circuit since I have 2 wires of each color in the box...

Hello all, I have recently run into some wiring issues in my home. Everything was working fine until I changed two electrical outlets and one light switch. I turned the power off to the outlets, swapped the old ones for the new ones, but when I turned power back on, nothing would work...

I'm having vinyl siding put on my house and would like to remove the outside lights. Can anyone tell me what to do to the wires (clamp? ...) to make them neutral (other than shutting the circuit) while the work is being done? Thank you. Darlene

I want to add a 15A circuit and I have an unused 15A breaker which was added by en electrician about 12 years ago. The breaker was added when another 15A circuit was added. They were both extened to a 4 inch box in my crawl space. The unused circuit ends there. I noticed that the two 15A...

I have two 200 amp main panels, each feeding an independent generator subpanel (subpanels have mechanical interlocks). I want to feed both subpanels with a single generator that's capable of powering the entire system. Running the hot wires seems pretty straightforward - feed one of the subpanel...

I have been stuggling to figure out a fairly simple grounding question I'm sure many here would understand. I have a home built in 1961 with 2 wire electrical wiring that has no groundwire, and a fusebox. Outside there is a thicker wire that goes into the ground. Here are my questions. 1...
