    What I have in mind is using shakes on my gable and having a trim board separate the shakes from my lap siding below. I know to use Z flashing where the shakes touch the trim board.     Can anyone tell me how to butt Hardie lap siding (after attaching trim board)to rock/stone/concrete? Some say to caulk and others say never to caulk. Which method is best? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
