Hi! I bought a new light fixture and I noticed that The box in the ceiling has the ground wire coming out (in white in the photo, I will have to clean it). However, the light fixture doesn’t have any connection for the ground (see photos). The box in the ceiling is made of plastic, while the...

Hello all, I am installing a 400 amp meter base combo.I have seen plenty of example of 400 amp meter bases with separate 200 amp disconnects. These separate disconnects typically have a grounding bare and a hole punch to bring the grounding wire out through eco suit down to the grounding rods...

I have disconnected all of the grounds from the breaker box in my mobile home but when I use my multimeter and touch a black wire while it is hot and then touch metal on my trailer there is a voltage of 116. Almost like the mobile home is grounded from something. Is this normal?

I'm new to household electrical and this forum, but know a little bit about electronics. I have a detached garage and I ran (3) #6AWG copper wires from the main panel in house out to garage subpanel. Being that they are piped, and buried with a few 90 degree turns, I cannot add additional wires...

Hey everyone (1st time poster), I need some help with my electric. I have old wiring that isn’t knob & tube but is prior to ground wire being in the wiring (I think?). I’ve attached a pic of the wire but I think it is ungrounded 14 gauge copper. For sure not aluminum or anything else. I have...

I have a 3 wire stove and the ground wire is attached from the copper screw in the chassis to the white wire neutral terminal. This ground wire is bare with no insulation. Is this OK in a 3 wire grounding configuration? If the uninsulated grounding wire touches anything I am concerned that...

I'm replacing a light switch with a dimmer. The ground wires in the box run through the box leaving no end exposed to attach ground from dimmer. Do I need to remove the box to get at the ground or are the wires grounded already?

Earlier today I replaced my doorbell transformer with a new 16 V 30 in preparation to install video doorbells. The old transformer was connected outside the main panel, and only had 2 wires. One to hot, and the other to the neutral/ground bus (the bus has both neutral and ground wires...

Hi, I am a DIYer, have some electrical experience from flipping houses, and would like to think I am pretty good at picking things up. But I do have a question, or really a clarification that I need if I am thinking right on this project. We are adding a Nest Hello doorbell and the current...

So I am going to be switching out some outlets in my home. It’s my first time doing this specific project but I have done extensive research and watched lots of YouTube videos so I know prior to changing the outlet I need to... Turn off the breaker Double check the outlet and wires with...

I'm about to install a 100 amp subpanel directly next to a main panel to be used as a generator panel during power outages. I'll connect the two with probably a foot of 2" conduit and run the 100A feeders along with the dedicated circuits through that into the sub. I plan to splice extensions...

Hi there, I had a new question come up regarding a project mentioned in a previous post. I'm looking to install a generator setup at my in-law's. The goal is to power the main house panel and also the panel on the rental cottage on the property. The two houses are on two separate services...

My home has a 200 amp Square D Homeline panel that has bonded neutral connecting to a ground rod outside. The panel is the main service entry. This panel also has a 30amp 2 pole standard trip breaker that connects to a 30 amp twist lock inlet on the building exterior. This breaker is...

I'm running a 12/3 wire from a subpanel. I split the red and black on two different breakers. Red going to a fridge and the black going to counter outlets. Can I run the white neutral wire to the fridge outlet and then to the counter outlet? Same with ground wire?

Just moved into a new house, and the laundry room door is about 4 feet away from the utility pole that provides the coax cable for internet service. So, I can literally plug my modem directly into the splitter at the top of the pole. However, I need to route this cable to a more practical...

Line tester shows open ground on several wall outlets on same breaker. Test meter shows voltage across hot/neutral on all shows 120. Voltage across hot/ground shows 52/53 volts on same outlets. I tested all outlet hardware on good circuit and all show 120 volts with no open ground. In service...
