My flooring guy said he couldn’t do it without redoing the entire floor. That seems odd. What’s the best approach/what are my options?

Hey DIY- Wife and I own a 1920 craftsman bungalow. Kitchen currently has 70's or 80's linoleum, its so beat and gross, need to replace. Under it, is a particle board subfloor from that same era i'd imagine. Under subfloor is the original wood floors, I think Alder from a wood guy told me. Rest...

How do I expedite drying time after reapplying water based polyurethane as I want to make sure it's adequately dry before applying the 2nd coat? How do I remove polyurethane that stuck to the floor without damaging it? It's a laminate floor that I dont want to damage with sandpaper.

I applied 2 layers of water based polyurethane yesterday. I let the 2nd layer dry overnight. This morning I sanded a small bubble on the second coat of polyurethane which has resulted in it peeling away in that area. What to do so I can proceed with the third then fourth coats of polyurethane...

We bought a new standard size standing fridge, just a fridge. But even with it full with food I can't seem to stop it from sliding or jiggling on our tiled floor. I know this isn't good for the fridges life span so I need to know what type of mat should I invest my money in to prevent it from...

tldr: what's the wisest way to proceed with levelling this bathroom subfloor over years, after replacing gaskets, replacing the toilet, and using shims under the toilet, i finally began the subfloor replacement in the area beneath the toilet to resolve the toilet not sitting flush and water...

My wife and I bought the house she grew up in from her parents. We're looking to redo the floors because years ago my father in-law cemented over the original oak floors and put tile down throughout the house. I have no idea why he would cover hardwoods like that. Anyway, I'd like to break it up...

this tile is driving me nuts. as per the photos it appears to be some type of vinyl laid over the original (?) porcelain hex tile. in a perfect world that vinyl would be easy and (more importantly) safe to remove and the porcelain underneath in good condition. my gut tells me neither of these...

im curious if it's recommended that we be out of the house during the entire process? certainly when the stain is applied but also when sanding? i'm mostly concerned about my 6-month old and the dust that will be created. the contractor said we'd only need to be out of the house when they're...

Hello all, Been a long time since I visited DIYc. I hope everyone is well and safe. After a lot of thought, I finally decided to redo the flooring in my 2 storey home. The bedrooms on the second floor has parquet flooring, 2 bedroom has fairly new parquet floor (I am assuming based on the...

Hi Y'all, I'm using stair nosing around the perimeter of my cutaway staircase, and just wondering what I should do about the corner that poses a bump danger to passersby and my growing offspring. Left at the 90 degree corner, it's pretty sharp. The options I've brainstormed are the standard...

Hi all, I am looking to remodel a bathroom on a budget and looking for ideas based on the bathroom you see the pictures. I ripped out the vinyl flooring and toilet and new flooring will go in but looking for ideas on the shower/tub and the bathroom cabinets. I don't really want to rip it out...

After looking at Home Depot online, prices are relatively cheap for hardwood flooring. I'd say the range is $3-12 sq. ft. And reading the reviews it's pretty simple to put together (granted your layout doesn't have unique floor angles). Since pricing is relatively cheap and installation being a...

Over time, part of my home's floor has sunk about 1-1/2 to 2", leaving me with an unsightly slope. This only pertains to the section of floor under a load bearing wall. For 3-4 feet in every direction (from the load bearing wall), the floor slopes up, and is thereafter flat. I'm inclined to...

Loose laying vinyl sheet flooring in our basement directly over concrete pad. Basement flooded a bit recently and water got all underneath the flooring (we've got 3 bedrooms down there), meaning we had to get all furniture out so we could get flooring up so it could dry...total pain. I want to...

Hello I noticed 2 blue streaks appear on our flooring from under the kitchen island heading directly towards the downstairs bathroom. Could this be a leak under the flooring? It could be a stain but I don't know how this could have appeared over night while we were all sleeping ! Image...

I was observing the work done to my aunt's basement the other day, and I was a little bit confounded to see the low quality workmanship given the cost (at least in my amateur estimation). I don't know what the value of the work should be, so I thought I'd post here to see what everyone thought...

Hi everyone, New here and to homeownership, and what a ride its been so far. I apologize if this is redundant, and I don't have photos at the moment, but here is our predicament: -We have a 5-car garage for a 2000 sqft house (the previous owner was a car collector). -The house is calling for...
