  1. Concrete, Stone & Masonry
I have a very old driveway that's gone from gravel ( 1860 ) surface to cement panels to the current asphalt surface. I'm seeing cracks on the surface, some 1" to 3" wide x 1.5" D, various lengths. Can I use cement to fill the cracks, concrete, asphalt crack filler ( last choice )? Thanks
  2. Drywall & Plaster
Hello (first post), I have an outdoor patio with a (I'm guessing) plaster ceiling. Since we've bought the house 2 years ago part of the ceiling has broken off and cracks are starting to get larger. I'm wondering what I can do to limit the growth of the cracks or fix it in general. A...
  3. Flooring
Been searching for an answer to this for a while, but can't seem to find anything. This winter the flooring strips in the living room of the house I moved into last summer began to crack and split. This is happening to the entire floor. I'm assuming this flooring was put in last summer and I'm...
  4. Building & Construction
Our home was built in 2013. Although we chose everything from the floorplan to the doorknobs, we knew very little about construction and it was a steep learning curve. Five years in, I'm left wondering if every little kink is either part of the normal aging of a house (with 2 toddlers living in...

Hi, I'm looking at buying a house that was built in the early 70ies. It's on a sloped lot so the garage is underneath the back of the house. The foundation wall on the back of the house, which is about 8' tall, has a horizontal crack in it, at the exact same level, around the whole back of the...

I'm very close on closing a condo in downtown Chicago. The inspection went well but that was for the interior. of the condo. I just walked by the condo building yesterday and noticed there are a lot of cracks on the building outside wall. The building was built in 2005 so it is relatively new...

Can anyone please please help me! My contractor finished rhinoliting my ceilings a week ago - two hairline cracks have appeared. He has told me this is normal, and probably due to the weather and that once we apply bonding liquid and paint the ceiling, this will fix the problem. Is this true? Or...

Hi all, Thanks ahead of time for opinions and help. I have a concrete patio pad that has settled and cracked. I want to see if the following idea will work. All I want to do is pour some exterior self leveling cement on the parts of the pad that has sunk. Then once it's level put rubber...

I have some oddities in my house, and since most of my questions are around cracks, I figured I would start there. Here is my bathroom (Hairline crack where you see red) Here is my circuit breaker: What could these type of cracks come from? please note that my circuit breaker is slightly...

Hi everyone, My wife and i just bought our first house and there are hairline cracks in the plaster EVERYWHERE. They are under every window, throughout a few of ceilings and under a couple of beams. The house is from the 1950's, and a contractor told me that this is normal, and was probably just...

Hello! Thanks in advance to anyone with time to help! I just wanna do it right the first time! So i'm redoing a small bathroom's walls and floors, already had the plumbing redone. The pictures here are of cracks, holes, and over 1" gaps on some walls between the concrete and studs. I've...
  13. Drywall & Plaster
Hi, hope someone can assist with this problem. I've been converting attic space in my house into two bedrooms, a bathroom and a play area. In one room where the drywall has been finished (but not yet painted), I've been finding cracks along the seams and also areas where the seams are bulging...

I installed the floor tile in my bathroom and it came out great. I had a guy do my plumbing and I had some outside work and I really needed the shower done. He said he did tile: He lied. He didn't use spacers, I bought white mate hexagon tile and you can basically see the sheets plus the thinset...
