coats. I do not recommend. Brush is the way to go with MinWax for sure. (FYI the color is Ye Olde Maple, I think it's just Olde Maple these days, but it's very close to the color of our maple cabinets (Thank goodness because the matching stain is like $80 a quart o.O)
