Unwalkable roof and soft shingles sure sounds like a good application for a few roof jacks and planks. It gives you a surface to walk and work off safely, also a place to stack your shingles. And lastly, keeps your shoes from taring soft shingles.

Get yourself a foam couch cushion, remove the fabric and sit on that. looks kinda silly but many roofers use them because they work.

Love it. Wish I'd thought of it years ago. We used to use carpet scraps and they work OK to not scuff shingles and they grip reasonable well but not like that foam.
