Solatubes removed, now roof leaks

When we bought our house last year one of the projects was to remove the solatubes (they were damaged anyways). We had tried to schedule a well known roofing company in our area to come out but were put on a waiting list (a couple months ETA) so we used a small company that was good friends with my aunt to come out and patch the roof. Unfortunately, the color match didn't work out, but I don't really care about that, the big thing was a leak at the W-valley flashing developed. The roofer came back out and unloaded a bunch of sealant on the flashing (I'm hoping this is a band-aid fix until the weather improves) but there is still a leak. Before they applied the sealant, I had a plastic tub under the leak and overnight caught about a half gallon of water. After the sealant, and 3 days later, it's about a cup of water.

Pics are attached of the solatubes when we bought the house (fixer upper) and after the patch and sealant job.

This is what the leak looked like when we first discovered it.

The guy is supposed to come back out sometime soon, but I'd like to know what you guys think needs to be done (besides the obvious "fire the roofer and hire a competent one"). We are still waiting for the other roofing company to get back to us as I'd like them to check out the patch job.

Re: Solatubes removed, now roof leaks

Did he not replace any decking? It looks like he just stuffed flashing material under the shingles and called it good. I agree, the tar on the flashing is abhorrent. If the layering was done right and the flashing done right, there is no need for sealant.

Not sure if I would allow him to present himself on my property again. Get a good roofer to come take a look at it and make proper repairs. It will cost more, now that a botch job has been attempted, but such is the monster.
