shingle scam by contractors?

We have our house on the market and have been told we may have defective shingle because of IKO shingles being bad from the factory

A home inspector said the house had no problems but the roofing was suspect because he didnt know if we had fiberglass or asphalt shingles and that IKO had a bunch of bad ones in the 90s and they may have to be replaced , the house was built in 98. all the contractor here in our town in ohio said yes they have replaced many roofs less than 10 years old with this problem and is holding up the sale of the house . a search of the internet shows no big problem with any of the manufacturerers products . are we being feed a line ???? please help if you can. thanks.

So the guy says he sees no problems, but due to the IKO problems, you may have to have your roof replaced...does he have evidence or proof your home has the suspect IKO's? Sounds pretty lame to me...or he is proving what a competant home inspector he is...Unless you know your home has them, tell him to get lost or prove the point. Another thing, if he really checked the roof, he would know if they are asphalt or fiberglass.

All fiberglass shingles are asphalt/fiberglass.

Anyone that says otherwise knows jack about roofing shingles.

Does anyine make asphalt shingles with an organic mat anymore?

Both IKO and BP "now called EMCO" both Canadian companies, still make organic base shingles. Certainteed and Bird had a three tab that was organic untill fairly recently. Atlas and Georgia Pacific still make one I think as well but its economy grade stuff.
