Metal roofing vs. more traditional forms

So in your opinion, what are the benefits/disadvantages of a metal roof over other traditional materials?

No disadvantages except expense.

They are all benefits. Longevity, heat reflection, aesthetics, potable run-off, durability, wind resistance, etc.

what sort of metal roof? I am not a big fan of the style that has exposed fasteners. We have one on my Church and I track down leaks on a yearly bases mostly from failed washers.

Agreed.

Should have made that distinction @craig11152 . You are 100% correct in that exposed fastener roofs are a no-go in my opinion.

Check with your insurance provider for their opinion also. You may experience a change in the premium.

If you are in an area or snow accumulation you should consider the dams or fixtures - sorry I don't know what they are called - to prevent avalanches of snow sliding off. I have heard of the insurance issue but have no idea what it is based on.

The only negative comment I have ever heard is firefighters don't like them because they can be more difficult to vent in the event of a house fire - but then again I know a number of firefighters that have them on their houses, so go figure.

they last forever, they dont blow off, water sheets off them. where i live a metal roof is 50% again as much as shingles, but well worth it.

Snow birds, snow fencing, snow retention, etc.

If the snow is heavy enough, look into heated wire applications as well.

Very true about getting into them. I have also seen them choke out a fire and they are a must in a heavy lightning and wildfire area.
