Metal Roof Creases Sanity Check

I know this is the DIY Chatroom, but I could use a sanity check here with a contractor job: I hired a roofing company to install a standing seam metal roof on the house I'm building for myself. It's NOT an easy job: the roof is VERY cut up, and a good size (3000 sq ft house w/ attached 1700 sq ft garage). I got 5-6 estimates, and these guys had an impressive portfolio/references, and came in with a bid that was attractive (not lowest, but bottom third). They bend basically everything on site with a $85k rig from coils of the metal finished in the color we special ordered.

We are into week 6(!) of this job, and they are finally close to finishing. Side note: a few weeks ago, they had 6-8 long (16-20') panels they had run that they ended up leaving lying on the ground. They explained they were "too short" for the section they were working on.

Today, the 6-8 "mistake" panels were gone (I had to be at the office so wasn't there to see it), and a back section of the roof is complete. However, many of the panels there have what appear to be creases at various spots. These aren't "waves" or anything like that, I'm talking what appear to be 1-2' areas across the width of the panel that appear darker than the rest of the panels. Some have one crease, some two, some none. I assume what happened is they decided to re-use these "mistake" pieces, and over the course of the previous 3-4 weeks of laying on the ground with multiple contractors around, the "mistake" pieces had acquired the creases, and they put them up anyway instead of running new panels.

I know these guys underbid the job. The foreman has basically told me as such. They originally anticipated three weeks to complete, and as I mentioned we're on week six. They just want to be done with it and get on to the next job.

But I'll see these creases every time I look up. None of the other sections have these creases. I plan to request they replace them, but wanted to be sure I wasn't being out of line. I know the creases don't affect the performance of the roof, but we're paying good money for this roof, and I want to be sure I'm not out of line expecting that the roof panels not have this "creased" look.

If they were the short pieces, they should have protected them until they were needed.

Rained all day today, and I need sunlight to see the creases. I'll grab a pic tomorrow.

It's tough to pick them up w/ a camera, but here's an example: you can see one on the panel one over from the chimney, two on the fourth panel, and one more on the seventh panel (that one's pretty small). It's tough to see in the second pic, but there are two on adjacent panels.

Am I out of line thinking this isn't right? There are longer panels elsewhere that all look perfect.

Called "oil canning", not much to be done about it.

Flat panels will always have some degree of oil canning.
Striated panels might have helped, but a little crease near the valley isn't unreasonable, and is a sign they did a professional install.

Very true! right now the roof is your main focus, once you move onto something else it will become a distant memory .... and it's not like it's a defect that will always jump out and grab your attention.
