Corrugated Metal on Rafters

Hello.

I was hoping to get advice on how best to fasten corrugated metal to rafters.

This is for a gable-end awning that extends out about 14 feet from the gable. We have 2x6 rafters every 22 inches. I'm not sure if I should lay out 2x4's across the rafters perpendicularly or if I should sheet the whole surface with ply or possibly even t1-11. (t1-11 would give it a nicer appearance from below.

My main concern is getting enough bite when I screw through the valleys on the corrugated and into the underlying wood. But I don't want the screws to break through and be visible from below.

My preference is to use 3/4" T1-11 for the best appearance from below

Thank you very much.

What wind zone are you in?
I would put 2x4s perpendicular to the rafters, either between or on top of the rafters. Then I would put a ceiling on the bottom of the rafters.

You can do the plywood face down then horizontal 2x4 straps ever 2ft on top the plywood.

Thanks OT. That's a good idea. I can even use a much thinner and lighter material on the underside as it should get any weather.

I'm in SoCal, inland so I think that's Z1. It's also located in a canyon lower than the surrounding land.

Thanks again!

This would definitely give me more than enough meat to bite into. Thanks for this suggestion. I appreciate your response.
