regrout a tub


do you have to remove all the grout totally or can you remove half and grout over the old grout.

When re-grouting you need to remove at least 1/8" preferably more. But since I know of no tub that requires grout, how about you take a few minutes and better explain what you're doing. It sounds to me like you're thinking of the tile/tub joint which does not call for grout in the first place.

Get a grout saw and take the grout out the most that you can then regrout. Silicone between tile and tub no grout because the tub can move that will lead to grout cracking.
