One day to tile a bathroom including grout?

I've got a couple of bathrooms. The floors originally were tile over mud, but had gotten bad over time. I pulled everything out down to the subfloor in preparation for putting in a new tile floor.

A contractor says he can be in and out in one day, including grout (he'll be using CBU as the underlayment).

I've always heard grout the next day.

I suspect that his price -- which is by far the lowest -- reflects this "one day" of labor.

Does this make sense, or should I run from this contractor?

Thanks,

Richard

they do make fast setting thinset that allows you to grout the same day.
you only have a short time to work with it tho.

Whether he does the job in one day or over two or three I do not see how the actual labor amount would change that much. The process can only move along so fast by nature.

Do you have bids in writing for direct comparison? Usually when somebody is way off in either direction it raises a red flag with me. People are hungry these days though so maybe you are getting a deal. On the other hand if he is not using a quick drying thinset and mortars over it before it cures you could have a mess on your hands.

It also sounds like your instincts were triggered. Usually when I ignore mine, the results are not good. I would at least check references and go look at some work if you can.

I've done this successfully---I only do it when there is little other choice because I hate working with rapid set--but it can be done and is done an a regular basis.

Thanks all! I found another contractor who offered a comparable price, and will do it in the more traditional way. I plan on going with him. Thanks again for all the helpful comments.
