There is no good reason to apply Redgard in a kitchen floor. But why not just use Ditra instead of concrete backer?

I'd be more concerned with the framing, the subfloor and what prep you're planning to do.

i tiled my kitchen a few months ago. i got all my info online and im sure Jazman had input on my question. i used the ditra and to me it was so much easier then putting cement board down. it costs a more but if it works as designed i will never have to replace the tile in the kitchen because it failed somehow. if you use ditra follow the install directions that come with it.
