What gasket material to use to hold glass to medicine cabinet door?
I'm having the mirror from a 1931 bathroom medicine cabinet re-silvered. The mirror (glass) is held on with brackets that screw into the top and sides (not bottom, interestingly) of the cabinet. They hold the glass on by friction clamping. The brackets were lined with some sort of soft flexible gasket material, so that when the screw is tightened, the gaskets swell to grip the glass onto the door. The gasket fits in the "cup" of the bracket. I've included a picture of a bracket below. The issue is that the original gasket material was disintegrated to the point of being unusable. Can anyone suggest a specific gasket-type material that would work for this? Thank you.
Go back to the local glass shop that you had re-silver the mirror, and they will have the Silicone squares that are used.
