What to do with paper towels?

In every home I have lived in, paper towels are a frustrating problem. Either under-the-cabinet (drill into cabinets), on the wall, or counter-top vertical holders. They're always in the way, rarely where you need them when you need them, and just plain not convenient.

If I mount the dispenser near the sink, I need them at the stove, if I mount near the stove, I need them at the sink. Maybe there should be a roll in both places. But then I have two rolls hanging and obstructing counters.

So, what creative, functional, solutions have you found for paper towels in the kitchen?

The roll just stands up on my kitchen counter.

I'm germophobic so I use free standing vertical holders on the counter. I can usually get a sheet off without having to otherwise touch the holder or the roll. But it isn't a pretty solution. I guess a roll of paper towels taking space and looking ugly is just the way it is these days.

I'm trying to design a new kitchen and just want to consider all the creativeness I can before the plans are locked down

Our paper towel holder is mounted under the cabinet between the sink and fridge. Never thought of it as being inconvenient.

Re: What to do with paper towels?

My roll is mounted on the inside of the cupboard door, right under the kitchen sink.

And with an island stovetop, all I have to do is turn around and get one, or step one step sideways from the prep countertop, to get one.

Under sink is hidden from sight, easily reached from most areas, and easy for me.

Re: What to do with paper towels?

I threw away all the gimmicks and gadgets and like stick/shift it stands proud and alone on the counter. Freely moved from stove to sink to near Fridge or tucked back beside the stand mixer if I'm in the mood for the clean look. Like a marine always ready to go to the battle site on a moments notice.

The free standing paper towel holder is the better of the entire lot of options if absolutely have to have one.

Re: What to do with paper towels?

I just put a towel dispenser wherever I needed them the most. And the little exercise I get while walking to one of the 3 of them, is not harming me I don't think.

Re: What to do with paper towels?

Here is what I did:
I stopped buying paper towels several years ago. I have enough wash cloths to accomplish whatever you would use a paper towel for and just run them through the washing machine when it's time to do a load.

Re: What to do with paper towels?

I have mine on two wide angle line things that we had on hand and
installed them under the sink cabinet.
The paper towels easily slip in and out several times a day...even when
the roll is new there is enough room to pull them in and out easily.
I don't like to see paper towels on the counter or on the wall.

Re: What to do with paper towels?

My wife got tired of pulling over the upright stand I made her, and she keeps our counter tops clean, spotless, uncluttered, and did I mention CLEAN -- at ALL times! Now, the paper towels simply stand in a corner, out of the way, but always ready with easy access.
