What can I possibly do with this bathroom

It's a small bathroom and I don't really want to take out any walls or anything so I know I'll be limited in that way.

The door interferes with the cabinets, and the shower is extremely short, I'm 6'3" and the shower is 5'11" because of that stupid cupboard above it.

This house was setup as a student rental before, so there isn't really any room in the bathroom to store towels and stuff except in the gross ugly cupboard.

So w hat could I do with this bathroom that doesn't involve taking down walls to make more space?

Not much.

I guess you could remove the cupboard as a start. Showering bent over is a real stinker.

You could put an Over the Toilet Etagere. It's not as much space but it would let you remove the over the bath storage.

Take out the vanity cabinet and put in a pedestal or wall mount sink. You gain space but loose storage. Take out the overhead shelf completely or possibly cut in half and leave a 6" shelf above for a few towels. Put in a big flush mount medicine cabinet.
Reverse the door to open out. If you take out the overhead cabinet,
you can attach a hand wand and probably get another 4 to 6" on the sprayer height.

I was thinking of doing a pedestal sink and a behind the toilet shelf of some kind. I really like the one linked above.

Maybe a smaller cabinet that doesn't extend to the door.
I'm not sure what the stud layout is like behind my exist in wall medicine cabinet, but I also really like the idea of installing a much larger one and getting rid of the cupboard above the shower.
Maybe leave enough room for some in shower lighting.

Not so much you can do, but you can change your flooring and wall tiles which can at least gives you a fresh look to your bathroom. But with that small space you managed it very well.

I was blessed with a small bathroom like this in my first home. We covered available wall space with 2 large mirrors. It will at least give you the appearance of more space.

I like the wall tiles, from what can been seen. The bathroom could use some color, depending on what you like.

Something as simple as crystal looking drawer knobs might help. I'm thinking clear white, not the amber.

Re: What can I possibly do with this bathroom

I actually don't mind the wall tiles, but I didn't manage anything, this is how it came when I bought the place lol.

That whole sink cabinet needs to come out though, it looks ok in the pictures but trust me, it's a mess and seems like it was built as more of an after thought.
the previous people who lived in this place were utter pigs, and everything in the house is pretty gross....so I'm not keeping those cabinets.
The doors are also all loose, many of the imperfections were "fixed" with just silicone to fill in a space or gap.

it was all very poorly done, it looks like whoever did the renovations on this place to make it a rental were found standing outside of home depot trying to figure out the difference between a nail and a screw.

Half of thewiring in the basement was done with whatever pieces of wire they could find lying around, including a few runs of 240V dryer cable in short sections and junction boxed together to handle the lighting for half of the basement, nearly all of the outlets, and even some outlets upstairs......all on one breaker.

sucks though, there's so much I want to do, I just don't have the money to do it all

Give it time. . . unless you want to sell it quickly, but doesn't sound like you do. You can do it bit by bit.

That's basically what I'm doing, bit by bit here and there.

I'm not even planning on doing anything with the bathroom for quite some time, but I lack a certain vision, so I thought I'd ask about what could be done in the meantime.

I watch these reno shows, and I see bathroms and stuff and I think "oh this or that would look nice" and then the guys do the actual work and it is so far above and beyond what I thought would look nice that it just blows my mind and makes me realize that I have like no design type skills lol

Re: What can I possibly do with this bathroom

I am good at drawing, but only copying what I saw. Replication. Prob. genetic. But, I have trouble applying what I see of color, although, I can see it fine. That's when I started using the detailed painting on the wall idea to decorate by. Meaning ( in this forum) "a" painting that I liked..

So, you could try that again, if there is any wall space. Something that looks good with the wall tile. I'm glad you are ripping out the sink tile

Also, there's a wealth of information out there with beautiful bathrooms to copy. Nothing wrong with that. Everyone has their own set of skills.

An out-swing door would help.

Re: What can I possibly do with this bathroom

I have some ideas that I can post either tonight or tomorrow.

Firstly, as suggested remove the cabinet over the shower.
Also remove the towel bar behind the door so that the door can
hug the wall more when it's open.

What is the vanity length? I'm guessing that the part of the vanity
that is jutted in to accommodate the door swing clearance is about
26" long...Give me the measurements both ways -- the overall
length and the length that juts in to accommodate the door.
Is it a 22" or 24" door?

What is the (depth) measurement from the wall to the outlet
plug? just the outlet plug, not the on and off switch, I'm guessing
9"? For what
I have in mind you'll have to move the on and off switch, perhaps
move it to the outside wall in the hallway.
I Or...This is a question for the electricians...is there a long narrow
switch that has the on and off out switch and plug in outlet
on top of one another? In our bathroom ours is all in one --only
its side by side.

Do you have any woodworking skills? If not, don't worry you can
still update that bathroom in expensively.

I need to prepare for Mother's Day so I can't draw a diagram until
tonight or tomorrow...in the mean time if you get me the measurements
I don't have to guess...

Re: What can I possibly do with this bathroom

I was working on a sketch and came across this.
It is what I had in mind a cabinet on the left that is
shallower than the sink cabinet in order to clear
the door.
This is an option, and you could also make the cabinet on
the left taller and wider than the pic. You could also
bring it down to the floor. I like it up off the floor,
however if your tiles don't extend to under the vanity
that may not be an option if you don't want to
re-tile the floor.
Look at this photo, notice that they
used a different decorative tile on the strip of
floor under the vanity? You could do this as well, it's
actually a unique and decorative look.

Another thought I had is install a bi-fold door, thus the swing
area needed to close the door wouldn't be a problem.
