Trying to find replacement fan

Current bathroom fan needs blower bearing needs replaced, VERY loud. Current unit has fan, light AND heater. Interested in either fixing just blower portion, or replacing whole unit, donít care. Current ceiling fixture is a large circular recessed can. Unit is probabt 15+ years old. I canít find the manufacturer name on unit at all.

Two questions:
1 - Anyone know where to find parts for these?
2 - If I replace with a non-heated unit, will it fit into existing recessed can?

Thanks

Mike

Re: Trying to find replacement fan

Can you post a picture of it with the light pulled down so we can see the internal workings?

Once you identify the brand or the motor type... it's a LOT easier.

Last time I did one I found that a new exh fan at HD...
cost less than just the motor from a wholesaler would.

The fan is very noisy, so I would like to try and replace that. Bearing going out maybe??

I can't imagine all that fitting in the hole in the ceiling.
Might be just the motor.

Re: Trying to find replacement fan

If you don't want it, I'll take it. Is it belt driven? Never saw anything like it. Try connect to power and see where the noise comes from, since you have it down. Search for motor repair shops for bearing. Should be simple enough for them. Make sure the bearing is made anywhere but china. Refer to youtube AVE for bearing qualities.

Motor could be a problem. It didn't look sealed but right temp cut off, seal/open cool, right kind of spindle , all make the replacement tricky. Motor shop may refuse to work on it, another monkey wrench for you and for them.

Some noise is from how the housing is fastened to the frame. You could try adding vibration absorbing rubbers. You could try caulking the housing seams. The fan housing, caulk or tightening the fasteners? Turn it on first and tests.

Replace that - just like the dinosaur, it's time is over ! Remove the can, get a nice fan or light/fan and a little drywall work and you're good to go. Don't forget, if installed over shower or tub and manufacturer instructions call for it to be GFCI protected, do it !
