Tile around window and proper transition

What started as casual shower tile grout refresh as turned into a gut job after discovering old moisture damage. House was built in 62', utilizing the mesh, mortal and plaster method of old. Tearing it all out down to the studs, replacing with Hardie 500 and Kerdi membrane. Making all the proper repairs before sealing walls, then on to the backer board install and hopefully tiling next weekend.

I'm curious how to tile and transition properly into the window sill. There's not enough space to tile the sill, so I'll need to determine a proper method to so that will be waterproof. Obviously, the wooden trim (who thought that was a good idea, even if coated?) will be removed. Would bullnose, grout and caulk work?

All the videos and tutorials I've discovered cover tiling the actual seal. We're using 3x6 tile for reference.

Re: Tile around window and proper transition

Is there a shower involved? If so, I would remove the window trim and existing tile and bed. Then post pictures of what you have. Most likely you can tile inside the window frame provided you prepare it first and slope the tile slightly for water run off. Yes, you would use a bullnose tile to transition it.

I won't go so far as to say it's proper...
but this worked out rather well.

I added some wood around the window to deepen the 'sill'.
MR-GWB with vinyl J channel up to the window frame; caulked.
Simple round edge tile set between the window and wall.
RedGard on all wallboard and Epoxy on the exposed walls.

Re: Tile around window and proper transition

when done "correctly", wood window trim will work.
no difference than having the same trim on the outside of your house.
[a thorough understanding of wood types, sealants, paint and caulk is a must].
a good alternative for wood trim in the bath is PVC material.

Re: Tile around window and proper transition

thanks gents for the replies. Once I get the backer-Kerdi in, I'll take some time to study the methods proposed.
