Standup Shower U Channel chipped

Hi everyone!

I purchased a home that wasn't kept very clean and during our process of getting it back into livable condition, I took apart nearly everything in the standup shower to rid it of mold and whatever other grossness the last owner had in there.

The U channel that holds the shower glass has quite a bit of chipping on each end that I want to fix. I'm pretty sure this is aluminum but I'm not sure what kind of layer is on top (chrome?).

Does anyone have any tips on how to repair this? I researched just buying a new u channel piece to just replace it entirely but I'm having some trouble finding it locally. I can get one shipped but it's so long (98") that it keeps getting damaged en route so now I'm thinking I should just try and repair what I have.

Sorry I couldn't add the photo in my first post because of a forum restriction for new users but here it is:

Hate being the bearer of bad news, but you can't 'fix' the anodized finish on the alum. You might check with one of the big box stores (Lowes, Home depot , Menards etc.) they might be able to order one in for you?

In the mean time, could I just use something on it to stop corrosion?

Like I said, I found a distributor but it's just tough getting a long piece like that shipped (and it'll likely be the same problem shipping to Home Depot as it would be my address).

Well, it wouldn't look like new, but you could sand the area with fine sand paper and clear coat it. I would suggest taping off the ends and clear only the part where the damage is. Will it be invisible? Nope, but would look much better.

I'm really not even sure what kind of clear coat I could put on it. Nail polish?

Re: Standup Shower U Channel chipped

Just get a small spray can of urethane clear.
