Shower pan and cement board

I am installing the Kohler Kathryn shower receptor and will have a tile surround. After reading the instructions my husband and I disagree with the wonderboard install. I believe it should rest on the flange lip and he says it should be 5/8" above the shower floor. He installed shims on top of the flange so the wonderboard it will lay beyond the flange. Who is right? Below is a link and the example is on page 8.

Thank you

The wallboard should be (uniformly) within 1/8" of the top of the receptor rim. Then caulk that juncture.
Once the tile is installed...same thing...then caulk that juncture.
