Shower material

We are putting in a prefab shower into our half bath. I've seen models from Sterling, Swanstone, and American Standard. Is one better than the other? Also, I've seen the material used described as Vikell, Veritek and Acrylic-capped ABS with fiberglass. Are they all the same thing, or is one better than the other?Thank for any thoughts on the subject.

Swanstone is a solid surface type material, the others are plastic/fiberglass, big difference, no real comparison. For durability, go with Swanstone, for cost, the others.

Thanks, that's what I need to know. Swanstone still seemed doable cost wise.

look into swanstone some I have someone I am getting ready to do a shower for and she has had problems with a previous swanstone kitchen sink. sink was white and she found it would yellow out on her which she could'nt clean away. I know you can sand them down since it's a solid thru color but we will be tiling her shower not swanstone per her request, just a thought for what its worth

Haven't been able to find a Swanstone shower floor to go with the Swanstone walls so have been doing more research. Alot of websites say go with Acrylic and avoid Veritek. Does anyone know if Vikell is Acrylic? What have others had good experiences with?

Veritek IS Swanstone. It is a solid surface product and you can order them through most Lowes or Home Depots. Shower bases are not subject to the abuse that kitchen sinks are (boiling water, cleaning solutions etc.) and we have installed them for many years with almost no problems. In fac,t I have one in my own master bath. The most important thing to consider when installing one is to be sure to set it into a good base per the manufacturers instructions.

There is a lot of contradictory information out there. I have had good experiences with Swanstone products. In our apartments we used both acrylic and Swanstone, and the acrylic wasn't better by any means other than it was cheap.

Our local lumber yard sell a complete base and wall set up that is Swanstone so it must be available elsewhere also.

Maybe you can't find the base units because they are sold as Swanstone veritek shower bases, and you are thinking that it is a different product.

My daughter had her Master bath re-done about four years ago. They used a beautiful light greenish material, and said it was "Corian" (sp). I had only seen Corian on countertops but it's nice for the tub/shower walls. Would this be the same as "Swanstone"? David
