should imperfections in travertine be filled before or after sealing

I am planning to use a similar color grout on my mosaic travertine mesh backed backspash

Some of the 2x2 tiles have holes and imperfections which I hope to fill with the grout

My question is if the tile is sealed with 511 impregnator sealer prior to adhering to the wall will the grout adhere to the holes?

Generally, the grout will not stick as well to the sealed tile, especially if the sealer is allowed to puddle into the holes.

But grouting the unsealed tile may stain all of the tile surface. Depending on the batch of tile, the exact color of the tile and the type and color of the grout, it may or may not be a problem.

I would do a test run (hopefully you bought a few extra sheets). Seal and grout a few tiles, then just grout a few of the unsealed tiles and see what you like.

But either way, after grouting you probably should top seal everything (the grout and tile).
