Sealant for Acrylic shower stall

We put in a Delta ProCrylic high-gloss acrylic shower stall.
The person helping said silicone was the best sealant so that is what was used.

The first time the shower was used, it leaked onto the ceiling below.
About an hour later, we used an inspection camera to look underneath the shower stall while the water was running (there is a tub to the side of the shower, so we used that access panel). We couldn't see anything.

We drilled a small hole right in the middle of the wet spot in the sheet rock on the ceiling below. We let the water run and again we saw nothing through the inspection camera.

I found a notice in the shower stall packet saying " Silicone and acrylic latex sealant are not recommended due to potential adhesion and shrinkage, which could lead to leaks. For best results, use an advanced kitchen and bath polymer sealant "

I'm wondering if that might have been our problem. Now we are trying to find a better option for a sealant, but everywhere I look people say silicone is the best.

Has anyone else run into this?

I'm wondering what others have successfully used as sealants for an acrylic shower.

Thanks

Re: Sealant for Acrylic shower stall

Get some Sikaflex 227 sealant and it should fix your leak, it's a polyurethane so will not crack but stretch when needed, and will bond to a number of plastics.

Forgot to say, if you used silicone it will have to be removed before using the polyurethane as it will not bond to the silicone, must be totally removed.

I agree that silicone is not the best, but it's certainly good enough in the short term. If it leaked right away, it was either caulked improperly, or else it is leaking from somewhere else, like the drain or even the pipe to the shower head.
