removing plastic anchor from wood (installing Blum hinge to replace old one)

The corner cabinet door in the condo I'm dealing with had Grass 1203 170 degree hinges. They had some damage (the bottom one hadn't been installed correctly and broke so the top one had been taking all the weight and was wonky too.

I bought a couple of Blum 170 degree hinges. As seen below, the previous installation had some plastic anchors in the wood. The mounting plate for the hinge does not match up with these plastic anchor holes and they're also making the hinge plate not flush.

How the heck do I remove these? And after I remove them, do I use wood filler and will that hold a screw when dry? The new screw positions are close to these. (I hope I'm being clear -- trying to say part of the new screw hole might overlap a bit with the old ones.)

Use a pair of needle nose pliers and just keep going around the outside of the anchor and pinching it inward, then pull.

Whittle a piece of wood (3/16" dowel maybe ?) to fit each anchor hole tight. Glue it in with TiteBond wood glue. Let cure over night. Insert new hinge and screws.

Thanks, I'll try the dowel approach. It's always fun when you watch videos/read articles that suggest 99% of the hinges will match up the holes perfectly and you'll be finished in a second. Then the reality is you'll need another trip to HD because you're in the 1% :-)

At least it's a nice day for errands.

The needle nose pliers approach is easier said than done. In about an hour, I've manged to remove 1 of the 4 plugs. really hard to get a grip on the plug edges.

Maybe a screw in it would give more to pull with.

put the screw back in, but leave enough to grab with a claw hammer. Be warned, the dowel may chip out the melamine/ laminate when you pull it out.
I've done this dozens of times. Easy peasy

Well, the screw and pliers trick worked on two of the remaining three plastic anchors but the third is well and truly stripped so a screw won't hold. And so a five minute chore continues into the night as the needle nose tugging isn't budging it.

If you can find a wider screw, you might be able to get it to bite. Otherwise, try drilling the plastic dowel with a bit slightly smaller than the dowel diameter. If you go slowly, it won't spin and you can drill out most of the dowel.
Then clean up the rest with needle nose and sharp utility knife.

A spiral Dremel bit will cut it out.
