removing ceramic tile in an old house

My house was built in 1968. We are in the process of taking down the tile. This tile is cemented to mesh that is attached to the walls. We have not removed it from behind the tub yet. We are not planning to replace the tube but put up duma wall tiles in the shower part. My question... is that tile going to go all the way behind the tub? really scared I am fixing to have a major problem

Probably not. The wire mesh may extend below the lip of the tub but can be removed.

It is possible that you might have to shim the studs out a bit before you apply whatever wall board you plan to use.

There is no way to know exactly what was done until you tear it out.

Wow, a 1968 model tub that does not need replacing ? Either it was re-glazed a few years ago or the many previous owners must have used another tub.
