priming behind cabinets?

Is it recommended that the drywall behind cabinets be primed or is it ok for them to remain raw? We are redoing our kitchen and our contractor doesn't want to paint behind the cabinets. There is a cold water pipe behind the cabinet wall and when we removed the old cabinets, the areas that were left raw had mould on it but where there was primer, there was none. So I am a bit concerned. Just wondering what the standard it.

I would prime it, It takes but a minute or two and it would make you and the drywall feel better.

Raw drywall paper offers a quality environment for mold growth under certain circumstances. Primers can be treated with mold and mildew inhibitors so-as to avoid the issue in the future.
