I don't know if this is covered anywhere on diychatroom and I am just a DIYer so take this with a grain of salt. I am only opening my big mount since it was so hard to track down info on MUA and how it affects installing a kitchen range hood.
In summary, MUA js not required by California code, but is required by certain California city ordinances, most if not all are in Northern Cali.
I finally was able to track down the 411 on this in a long post by jsceva on GardenWeb. I pulled up the 2013 code and it still has not adopted Part V. A link to that code.
Many other states do require make up air. Nor am I saying that you may not need MUA for a powerful range exhaust, but to my limited knowledge it is not statewide required by California Residential Code.
If this is ass backwards, you pros are invited to say so.
