Looking for ideas Cabinet Update

Hello all,

I was thinking about gaining some more usable space in my kitchen, previously set up as a desk area. I want to raise the height of the lower counter to same height as upper, replace the open cabinet with a new one to account for added height. Then we were thinking a deep drawer above where the bins are (dog food). This would work best for us as we like the bins for easy access and storage however I want some opinions as to other thoughts for the future..part of me thinks we need to close up the space with all cabinets and maybe rev-a-shelf or something for dog food. All thoughts appreciated.

Re: Looking for ideas Cabinet Update

Can you still get cabinet doors for your existing cabinets?
Whatís in that cabinet on the left, computer stuff?

I would think about two deep drawers ( one on top of the other)
for your dog food, do you need two deep drawers, or is one enough?

You could also have two deep pull out drawers behind a set of doors.

Besides dog food, what else do you want to do to make your kitchen
more functional? We made one cabinet a few inches higher in our
Kitchen, so that we could put in an under the counter freezer. The
Freezer is behind two doors.
Our son in law built under the counter book shelves that look great.

Re: Looking for ideas Cabinet Update

The space was by previous owner a computer area. Iím thinking for space between cabinets now one deep drawer and just an open floor shelf for bottom that way thereís not just floor space there. Purely for astetics and for possible future owner maybe a pots/pan space. Would make large enough for bins for dog food. Hopefully my kindergarten picture helps visual.

Yes, I get what you want. I think it would look better if you made two
deep drawers, one for pots and pans and one for dog food.

The question is - - are you able to match your new cabs with your
existing cabs?

I may have matching cabinets available. Give me the width measurements of the space you wish to fill.

Re: Looking for ideas Cabinet Update

My thoughts are the same that if you raise it to standard height, then it all needs to match as if originally done that way. So as said to match cabinets. Also, whether the tile continues under the computer cabinet once there's a toekick. And matching the backsplash tile. And if you reuse the laminate, I've never seen a splice other than a corner miter (looks like there's a slight chamfer on the overhang next to the corner cab, which will reduce the overhang on the left once cut).

You ask for opinions, mine on open vs. closed is it should be filled with cabinets as that is what guests and future owners expect in a small kitchen to hide stuff. You could then use pull-out bins to store the kibbles. The end cabinet could be that location and that might also make sense at that spot for a future owner's trash bin.

Re: Looking for ideas Cabinet Update

An update: We did decide to fill with regular base cabinets and planning on rev-a-shelf pullouts as shown above. Thankfully found a near perfect match with color and face with KitchenMaid maple praline stain so we ordered those today. Also were lucky to get same backsplash (peel and stick kind at HD) and hardware we can further install to match. Only question now is matching countertop to angle splice or replacing more than that even as we won’t be butting the ends - the current counter is not straight so not much of an option. Might end up replacing more countertop.

I ordered countertop will just need to cut to length and match up mitered edge, it’s a stock laminate at Lowe’s so got lucky there as well. I plan on installing it all myself at this point however got a couple quotes one upwards of $1000 for installing 2 base cabinets and countertop, to me this seems way high. The cabinets all sit on floor so just some minor leveling to probably do. Anyone else think this is what it would cost to hire a handyman?
