Large wall tile installation

Hello,

I am using 12x24 porcelain tile on my new shower enclosure and I'm not sure what type of mastic/mortar is to be used. The tiles weigh approx 7 lbs. Putting it up on top of Durock 1/2". Also how large of notch should i use?

Thank you!

Re: Large wall tile installation

Use LFT Thinset. Large Format Tile. Different strokes, but 1/4 x 1/4 trowel on the wall and back butter the tile as well. Don't use mastic in a wet area. It is best to attach a ledger around the perimeter, one tile size up from the finished floor to rest your courses of tile on. Once the wall is finished upward, then you can remove the ledger and finish below.

Not a pro - but can you describe the water proofing method you are using?
