Kitchen Cabinet installation, upper cabinets not level

I'm remodeling the kitchen in my 12 year old home.

I never realized it before but the ceiling (and floor, too) is very out of level. I installed two 30 inch cabinets side by side and when I leveled them, there was a 4.5 inch space between the top of the cabinets and the ceiling on one side and a 4 inch space on the other end.

It looked terrible, like the cabinet was tilted although it was level. The cabinets are supposed to be 4.5 inches from the ceiling.

So I re-installed cabinets so that they are "level" with the ceiling and it looks just fine.

I'm not sure what to do. Is this going to create any problems? I have installed the lowers and shimmed them so that they are level and plumb and now there is almost a .75 inch difference in the distance between the uppers and lowers from end to end but it's not noticeable to the eye. At least not now without the counters.

By the way, I checked the old cabinets for plumb and level before tearing them out and they were not even close and once I tore them out there wasn't a single shim used anywhere but everything looked ok to the eye.
