Kitchen Cabinet Doors Peeling

The thin top layer of some kitchen cabinet doors are peeling off, I am not sure what this layer is called. The doors are plywood. Is there some puddy type material that can be placed over it, sanded, and painted?

If not, how would you go about replacing the entire door, Home Depot/Lowes type of store? Bring the whole damaged door?

Thank you in advance. I do not come here often, but every time I do, I learn tons and end of fixing things myself, saving money and learning valuable skills.

Those appear to be melamine over particle board. No way to fix them.
You can buy sheets of melamine at the big box stores and make your own. They sell an iron on edge banding to match.

I agree with what you said. For the time and effort it will take its probably not worth it and may be worth replacing all together. Is there a humidity problem or were the doors simply handled rough?
