Kerdi Pan

I am using a Kerdi pan over a concrete slab. I know to use unmodified thinset to install the pan. I am using Hardiboard for the walls and tiling on those.

1. Do I also use the unmodified for the Kerdi membrane that comes with it.?
2. Do I need to use unmodified for the tile over the membrane.?

Thanks everyone.

I'd love to see some pictures of this project as you go along.

Re: Kerdi Pan

cia2a,

Yes to both Qs. Be sure to use a premium quality unmod. mortar, do you know which specific mortar you'll use? Be sure to damp sponge the Hardie just before applying the thinset mortar.

You may want to consider the Kerdi board. We did my sons shower with Hardi only because I was not aware of the Kerdi Board before starting.

IF you continue with the Hardi board, know that it will drink water so when applying the kerdi to it, you will need to mist it (hardi) with water before applying Kerdi and mortar. By using the Kerdi board, there is less work, IMO.

There is another website where you can get a ton of info and help, PM if you want it.

Re: Kerdi Pan

I did a shower in my other house and used hardi on the walls with no issues. Looking at budget is why I chose this as opposed to the entire Kerdi shower kit, $475 vs $94 for hardi

Valid point but for me, while I had no issues getting it (kerdi) mounted on the hardi, I feel the already mounted kerdi board is the way to go for us on the next bath. Simpler to use and cut, less seams and faster.

Good luck!
