Installing a Recessed Medicine Cabinet with Metal Studs
I'm attempting to install a recessed medicine cabinet and have found a lot of how-tos online, but all of them seem to show wood studs and I have metal studs. I will need to cut through 1 stud (non-load bearing wall) and frame out a wall cavity to hold the 15 inch wide cabinet.
I'm thinking it will be easiest to build the frame with wood 2x4s, but am not sure how to attach the wood to the metal studs. The stud I'll need to cut will be accessible, so I think that will be easy enough to screw together.
What I'm particularly trying to figure out is how to attach the header and sill to the studs on either side of that since they won't be exposed in the hole I'll cut. Is there a way to do that securely without having to cut a larger hole and/or drill through the dry wall? Would really like to do this without have to repair the walls and repaint the bathroom.
Open to any suggestions or advice! Thanks very much!
