Install medicine cabinet or not

So we have started to gut our small bath and you can see that framing was there for a medicine cabinet at some point, but it wasnt there as long as we have been there.. so it was covered at some point..

Is there any need to have one if we will have plenty of vanity space available with the upgrade?

Is not installing one seen as a con in todays designs?

if its personal choice thats even better.

The purpose of a "medicine cabinet" is to be able to put your prescriptions away from any children that might get into them and be poisoned.

So if there is any possibility that children could get to any prescriptions, I would be putting one in .

Re: Install medicine cabinet or not

I can't stand to see clutter all over the counters so I'd want a medicine cabinet. They are not completely necessary and I can think of plenty of houses I've been in that don't have them. It's your call. In my house we have giant plate mirrors with medicine cabinets in the side wall. It's easy enough to close up the cut out for them and some owners just put a giant mirror over the hole. I'd frame it in and close it properly.

Re: Install medicine cabinet or not

I'm guessing the idea of a 'medicine cabinet' started as storage when wall hung or pedestal sinks were the norm and bathrooms were a lot smaller. They seem to fallen out of favour (up here at least). If you have kids, the still have benefits rather than using drawers in a vanity cabinet. I prefer the look of a recessed cabinet vs. wall-hung. If you don't really need one, probably a good bevel-edge plate mirror will look nicer.

I thought the purpose of the medicine cabinet was the slot. You know, where you dumped your old razor blades.😂
Years ago I opened up a bathroom wall and the were 100s of them, a big rusted glob.
