Gutting and renovating a cramped basement bathroom - Youtube vid included
Going to be giving my parents a bathroom gut and reno for Christmas this year and am really looking for the proper way to do this. I've linked to a Youtube video since I have so many questions and the video will really show the problem areas I am concerned with. Also attached is a diagram of the bathroom in its current state.
What is needed for the shower curb? Currently there is most likely a cement curb with tile over it. I assume I can just tile the sides and get a marble threshold for the top with a slight slope toward the inside of shower.
The exterior wall INSIDE the shower, I plan to just tile directly over the block. Anyone see any problems with is?
Should I Redguard waterproof the whole inside of the shower block walls? Or is it not needed?
Is there any need for a foam sloped shower pan? I assume there is no issue just tiling right to the existing cement floor (no building codes/permits in my area).
The exterior wall with the popping tile, I plan to just glue foam board to the block wall, then attach furring strips with tapcons, and then screw moisture resistant drywall to it. My clearance here will be limited because I will not be able to build that wall out too far since there is not much clearance between the existing wall and the toilet tank.
It really would be better to give measurements in your drawing, and post pictures, vs. some Youtube video. As for your video, instead of making it look like Tunnel vision, that you are using blinders to keep people from seeing the big picture, you need to post a true Wide Angle video, if you wish for people to see what you are seeing.
Do you walk around with blinders on your forehead, so that you only see what is directly in front of you, and not to the sides, or only six inches of vision path? That is what your video is making people only see.
