Grout and Sealer

I plan to buy premixed grout for old 4" shower tiles. Only about a dozen small seams to repair. In case no one is available at store to advise me does anyone have recommendations?

Also I read grout should be sealed every few yrs. I doubt its ever been done. Any special sealer? These tiles almost butt up against each other. You can barely see the grout.

Thanks

I've used this grout sealer and am pleased with the results.

Re: Grout and Sealer

Whats the difference in grout:
Sanded
Unsanded
Acrylic
Urethane

Maybe it doesn't matter since this is such a small repair.

Thanks.

Re: Grout and Sealer

Assuming you meant 4 1/4" ceramic wall tiles, you need to use unsanded grout. I do not recommend pre-mixed grout unless it's one of the "special" high quality grouts.

Any sealer will help slow down moisture absorption, to make it easier to maintain. Sealer does not completely seal though.

Im doing a similar project as you right now. While I have similar questions. One part of the project I do have figured out is using this stuff after the regrouting

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Custom-Bu...0HPT/205299503

It seals and recolors grout, so you can use it on the old grout as well to get the dirty old grout to match the new.

The best premixed stuff that is not epoxy seems to be fusion pro (from home depot), its a waterproof grout/sealent premix. no sealing needed after. The cons seem to be its thicker and dries faster than regular grout (you need to keep wiping with wet sponge while applying). I havent used it myself yet, waiting on the mfr to tell me how well it will bond with normal grout.
