Formica backsplash

I have a counter top with attached backsplash that goes up the wall and appears to go behind the cabinets, not sure how high though. I would like to keep the exsisting countertop and cut off the backsplash and tile. IS this a possibe thing to do and what kind of tool is recommend to cut the formica?

A picture would help, what do you plan on replacing it with? And what tile are you talking about?
If you want it all gone remove the tile and I'd cut it all out with an ossilating saw. It will cut tight to the cabinets with out hurting them.
I'd remove the formica and whatever it's attached to at the same time.

keep the existing countertop and cut off the backsplash and tile.
when did this tile get into things?
There will be probably be lots of ways to cut off that backsplash...
but it isn't likely any will leave an undamaged countertop.

Take a few photographs... and repost.
