Does anyone know "what" this was framed for?

Demo'd bathroom wall in this awkwardly designed 5x7 bathroom. I replaced the vanity that had been here, since it only left about 1' in front of the toilet, which sits next to the tub! (I'm thinking it was a remodel from years ago to get the tub swung around from the window it would have been under ...) Anyway, I can't figure out what this frame would have been for? A sink has obviously been there, but this sits up too high for anything to make sense. Any ideas? That's the access panel behind it.

I should have backed up further to get a better shot (which would have meant standing in the tub.) Definitely a large recess above this weird notch, but this sits about 6" below the cabinet frame oddly enough.

Or the recess for the razor blades to be disposed into the wall as we did back then.
Windows on Wash and ROC_diy like this.
