distance needed for new toilet and shower

Hi,

Trying to figure out the dimensions for a possible bathroom (if we can fit it). I know the plumbing can work out for it already.

Can someone help me check the distance I would need from right to left in order to insert a toilet and one-piece 32 by 32 shower next to one another against a shared back wall?

In other words:
1. Beginning from a currently finished side wall on the right, how much lateral distance does the toilet need to the left before I add:

2. a framed 2by4 wall alongside the right side of the shower insert (finished only on the toilet side), then

3. the 32 by 32 shower insert rough opening, then,

4. a new outside wall alongside the left side of the shower

I was thinking I would need:

18" side to side for the toilet; plus 4" for the wall along one side of the insert's rough opening (again allowing for drywall only on the toilet side); plus the 32" insert's rough opening; plus another 4" for a new outside wall along the other side of the insert, plus another 3/4 for baseboard trim on the outside of the new wall).

A bare minimum of 59 inches from side to side. Does that look right?

Thanks

Re: distance needed for new toilet and shower

With the toilet centered in its space, at minimum it needs 10" each side of the toilet base from the walls baseboards and 12 inches is better. So toilet base width + 20" or 24" + 4" wall + 32" shower it's looking like 64" at least.

We have an identical situation with a 35" shower. The wall to wall space minus baseboards is 72" and any smaller wouldn't be good in my opinion.

Dweeter....... You can't squeeze a toilet in 18"..... I doubt you could physically fit it.....

I don't have my code in front of me.... but I'm thinking code is 15" each side....

There must be a minimum of 15″ from each side of the toilet to its center per code.

Re: distance needed for new toilet and shower

Oh yeah... duh. I was leaving a generous 18 inches on either side of the toilet, but I forgot to double that figure. Maybe I will go down to 15 as per code and make the toilet space 30 inches.

Thanks all.

30" required for a WC (15" from center to wall/obstruction) and you also have a minimum sq. inches for a shower. It's 1024 sq" in my area. Minimum width of 30"
