Depth of Delta bath valve

Having a hard time interpreting the instructions on this. Does the black plastic guard stop on the back side of the cement board or the outer surface or the finished tile? Or somewhere in between? The piece of scrap plywood represents where the cement board is going to be. I plan to use a standard 1/4 inch thick 12 X 12 ceramic tile.

Who mounted the shower body & did he ask you where you wanted it? It changes with the type of shower wall.

I sweated the shower body in but have not yet secured it to the studs. The lengths of the supply pipes gives me enough flexibility to mount it where it needs to be. And I realize a professional plumber would have mounted the body first but I wanted to get water supply secured first knowing that I could go back and mount the body afterword.

From the pic, it appears that there are mounting holes, for a cover plate. If that's the case, those holes should be flush with the tile or plastic surround, whatever you use.

Re: Depth of Delta bath valve

as your details show -
historically you need at least a 2x4 behind rough
valve to allow finished trim to properly install

ideally - front edge of plaster guard
is flush with finished wall...
with 3/8" allowance forward or inwards

Edit: be sure you insulate well behind that valve/piping
as it appears to be possibly an outside wall

Peace

It is an exterior wall. I used extruded foam insulation on that area behind the wet wall mostly out of frame. The area behind the valve I plan to hit with a can of great stuff which I've used before.
