Cutting travertine

I'm putting down 12x12 mosaic 3/8" thick travertine tile on my shower floor but I need to cut several of the pieces down to about 3/8-1/2" pieces. I have an angle grinder, so can I just use a standard diamond tip blade to cut these? I have one and I tested it on a piece but its chipping the surface of it. I just wanted to see if there was a different type of blade I should be using or if the one I have is starting to go dull. Here is a pic of the tile I'm using

Re: Cutting travertine

Unless you are a brain surgeon, I doubt you can hold the grinder steady as it spins at 10,000 RPM. You should really be using a wet saw, whether it be a cheap under blade model or a bridge model. You can rent one fairly inexpensively, and it will give you much better results.
